Ilgo metro filmas apie gyvenimą / Feature Film About Life
Narrative Features, Lithuania 2021, 100 Min., lith. OV, engl. st
Dovilė dances exuberantly with her girlfriends in a Paris bistro. The young woman seems relaxed and at one with herself. Back to everyday life, we see her at work as a speaker in a dubbing studio. Her phone rings and she takes the call on a terrace. As the camera pulls back, Dovilė seems to get smaller and more forlorn. Her father has died. In her directorial debut, Dovilė Šarutytė gently accompanies her hero as she prepares for the burial. Dovilė finds obligatory formalities such as choosing a coffin to be strangely absurd. So instead, she tries to rediscover the feelings that connected her and her father. Home movies make repeated appearances, like memories rising up in her inner eye: little Dovilė laughs, cries, plays, and sings. Sometimes we hear the father reasoning with the girl. We witness how Dovilė gradually accepts her grief.
