Metsurin tarina / The Woodcutter Story

Pepe loves his simple life and his job as a woodcutter. After work, he meets family and friends for dinner or a game of cards. Then one day, the local sawmill is closed and the peaceful village falls victim to mysterious events. Cars burn, animals stray into the church, and corpses appear. The more mysterious the incidents and the stranger other people start to act, the wider Pepe’s smile becomes. Surrounded by fear and paranoia, Pepe retains his stoic optimism. Maybe he knows more than those around him, or maybe he just trusts in life. Together with its quirky lead, the film explores the dark chasms beneath the magnificent and endless snowy landscape. Through Pepe’s eyes, we see life’s events differently. Only once does he too look aghast, when his partner, lying next to him in bed, laughs aloud while reading Sigmund Freud.
