Björn and Louise relax over a glass of wine in Tuscany. Their young daughter is playing in the pool. Their holidays, like their bespoke life in Copenhagen, are full of dinner parties and local bands. But there’s tension in paradise. A latent threat emanates from their new Dutch acquaintances, Patrick, Karin, and their taciturn son. The couple is so completely different than they are. Nevertheless, they develop an acquaintanceship and a few months later, the Danish couple accepts an invitation to visit them in their house in the woods of Holland. The hospitality is deceptive and Björn and Louise increasingly feel like prisoners. There are many ways of interpreting this psychological horror film. Is the Danish couple perhaps looking at a distorted mirror image? Could Patrick and Karin represent the abyss of the lifestyle they have created for themselves?
