The Happy Worker – Or How Work Was Sabotaged

The Happy Worker – Or How Work Was Sabotaged

Documentary Films, Finland 2022, 80 Min., engl. OV

Employees who have long since quit inside, incompetent managers, CEOs who dress their lies in creative buzzwords, a system of ruthless competition, in which achievement has long since ceased being worth it. How could it come to this? And why does everyone go along with it? "The Happy Worker" finds answers at a workshop for the casualties of this every-day lunacy, people who stepped on the hamster wheel with ambition and dedication, day after day, until they burned out. Together, they find the strength to surmount their shame and break through the culture of silence and silent smiles that conceals dread, rage, and resignation. Bit by bit, the full extent of a systemic malfunction comes to light, one in which the responsibility for failure is consigned exclusively to the individual. Bolstered by frightening statistics and expert interviews, the documentary paints a fast-paced and visually witty portrait of office work, a system that was considered dystopian 100 years ago and is now a sad reality.
