Music for Black Pigeons
Documentary Films, Denmark 2022, 92 Min., engl., dan., japan. OV, engl. st
They are peculiar people without attitudes, at times awkward in social interaction. But as the first tone sounds, an enthralling transformation begins. Everything comes together in a dreamlike way. Lost in themselves, the musicians find harmony and security, creating a common domicile transcending all differences. The bodies translate their devotion into the perceptible, passionately and convulsively twitching. When the last note has faded, one sees their happy, beaming faces. For more than fourteen years, the film accompanies a group of jazz musicians, exploring the question of what they feel while making music together. Tentative, stammering, they try to put the magic of their art into words; often, their inability to do so is answer enough. What they can hardly put into words, the film makes rousingly perceptible. In sharply framed miniatures, it engenders the intoxicating atmosphere of virtuoso playing and listening together. An intense journey deep into the heart of jazz, and into the emotional world of an eternally ageless awakening and discovery in music.
