Jeden ersten Sonntag / Every First Sunday

A theatre troupe in the German countryside. Some members live here, others travel to rehearsals, returning to their former home for the weekend. They all share a love of theatre and a desire to bring important social issues to the stage. Marianne writes and directs the plays, and her cold barn serves as their rehearsal space. The works examine social conflicts, the newest piece is about food, eating meat, consumption, vegetarianism, and bulimia. After rehearsals, they all sit together in a haze of cigarette smoke, making plans, gossiping, and catching up on each other’s lives over coffee and cake. Everyone in this ragtag community has their own burden to carry, their own worries, hopes, and problems. But the openness with which they discuss them makes it obvious that these get-togethers are about more than just creating theatre.
