Up-and-coming Norwegian director Kerren Lumer-Klabbers announces herself as a bold new voice with her first series, showcasing absurdist humour and a cinematic visual style. Set in an empty and grey dystopian near-future Oslo, the world has become less hospitable – dogs are walked by drones, banking decisions are delivered by AI, and the city centre feels lifeless. Julie – played by Eili Harboe ("Thelma”, 2017) -- is an aspiring architect, making coffee as an intern at a prestigious firm. Because only the rich can afford to live well, she has to move into an underground-parking-lot-turned-illegal-housing-community. When there’s an urban planning competition for architects to design 1000 new flats, Julie proposes turning more empty car parks into windowless residences -- but will this scheme backfire or ruin the friendships in her found family? While tackling serious themes like the housing crisis and social isolation, "The Architect” is also a very funny satire of what the near future could look like. The NFL will screen the full series.
