Culture clashes, family dynamics, political wrangling, and global hunger – the German-Norwegian series "The Seed” tackles all these big themes with enough excitement and intrigue to keep you glued to your seat. This thriller series follows German detective Max and Norwegian policewoman Thea, who set out to find Max’s nephew Victor, a young activist who has gone missing in Spitsbergen, Norway. The remote Arctic location of Spitsbergen is home to the real-life Svalbard Global Seed Vault – home to millions of seeds as the ultimate insurance policy to protect the world’s food supply. It’s an intriguing backdrop to a story that weaves together greedy agrochemical executives, environmental protesters, and image-obsessed politicians (along with the puppet-masters behind them). This ambitious geopolitical thriller was shot in stunning locations in Spitsbergen, Norway, Munich, and Prague, with dialogue in German, Norwegian and English. “The Seed” won two prizes at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
