Stranger than Fiction: The liberties and limits of documentary filmmaking

The Master Class Documentary Film of the Nordic Film Days Lübeck focuses on two films and their directors in this edition. Maria Fredriksson went looking for the true story behind “The Gullspång Miracle” and documented the very real but strange 
events. Carl Olsson explains how he staged the tableaus that he used in “Vintersaga” to paint a complex portrayal of society.

The masterclass invites you to discuss their artistic choices with the two filmmakers, to reflect on how documentary film can find the spectacular in the everyday, and show where the boundaries of documentary are to narrative storytelling and what the two genres can learn from each other.
