Honorary Award for Norwegian Director Bent Hamer

The 67th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (November 5 – 9, 2025) will dedicate its Homage to Norwegian director, screenwriter, and producer Bent Hamer. The
internationally renowned film talent will receive the festival’s Honorary Award on opening night, November 5, at the CineStar Stadthalle Lübeck.
Bent Hamer was born in 1956 in Sandefjord, Norway. After studying law at Oslo university, he worked abroad as a sailboat skipper for a number of years before taking a degree in film theory and literature at Stockholm university, and film production at Stockholm’s Filmskola.
His films have been seen at the most important international festivals, where they received multiple awards. In 2013, he received an honorary Amanda award for his life’s work.
“Bent Hamer has been a regular presence at the Nordic Film Days since his first shorts. Exactly 30 years ago, his debut feature Eggs won both the NDR Prize here and the Baltic Film Prize”, said NFL artistic director Thomas Hailer about the choice to honour Hamer, “At first glance, his characters appear quirky, strange, trapped in their own tics and eccentricities. But Hamer always take a longer, closer look. Until we are able to get nearer to them and suddenly discover ourselves reflected in their mannerisms”.
Bent Hamer himself curated the films that will be shown in the Homage. The NFL will show EGGS, KITCHEN STORIES, O’ HORTEN and FACTOTUM, all of which had their international premieres at the Cannes film festival, and 1001 Grams, which opened the Nordic Film Days in 2014. American producer Jim Stark, who worked with Hamer on Factotum, will give the honorific speech at the award ceremony for the Honorary Prize.
