Lübeck, Sept. 4, 2024. The 66th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 6—10, 2024) will open with director Gints Zilbalodis’ animated adventure Flow, a co-production by Latvia, France, and Belgium. The prize-winning film premiered at Cannes and will celebrate its German premiere in Lübeck. It is the story of a cataclysmic flood survived only by a cat and a handful of other animals, who escape in a boat and must work together to make it in their new environment.

“We are delighted to open the festival with a work by a young, Latvian animation artist”, said the NFL’s artistic director Thomas Hailer, “with his fascinating naturalistic imagery, he has developed his own form of utopia. He imbues his animal protagonists with their own characters, without anthropomorphising them. They communicate without using words on their little Noah’s Ark and are there for each other in decisive moments.”

Director Gints Zilbalodis and screenwriter Matīss Kaža are expected in Lübeck for the German premiere.
