Throw yourself onto the floor and stare at the ceiling without blinking. That’s Sasha’s trick for holding back tears. Although she has every reason to cry. But she is determined to be strong. After all, her father cries more than enough for both of them since her mother died. Sasha plans to cheer him up with a stand-up act at her uncle’s bar. Her path to this goal is strewn with hurdles. In her anger at her mother, Sasha promises herself that she will never become like her. To this end, she writes a hard-core survival list: Cut hair! Don’t read any more books! Never take care of a living creature! And most importantly: Become a comedy queen! But along the way, Sasha is overtaken by memories and begins to have doubts. How can she make other people laugh when she has trouble laughing herself? Thoughtfully, and with a light touch, director Sanna Lenken shows how 13-year-old Sasha learns to accept mourning and allow herself to be sad after her mother’s suicide.
