„Buddenbrooks“. Stummfilm mit musikalischer Begleitung
Events
Students in the master’s programme for improvisational organ and church music from the University of Music Lübeck – including Karin Lorenz, Alina Kirichenko, Hubert Trojanek, Werner Elias, Jonathan Weiler, Grigorii Osipov, and Manuel Rotter – design musical accompaniment to the silent film “Buddenbrooks” with organ, piano, percussion, and electronic music. This is the third time that a screening is accompanied by live music at the Nordic Film Days. With different instruments each time, music particular to the film is created, combining image and sound into a harmonious whole. This Lübeck family saga based on motifs from Thomas Mann’s novel was made in 2023, a year of great inflation, to transfer film to the modern era. The adaptation focusses on the relationship between business and emotional crises in the Buddenbrook household. We are showing the version, which premiered in 2025, restored in colour by the Deutsche Kinemathek.
