Tomorrow a Long Time Ago

Morgen vor langer Zeit / Tomorrow a Long Time Ago

Filmforum, Germany 2026, 91 Min., ger. OV, engl. st, FSK 6

In a small East German town in 1990, during the upheaval at the dawn of German reunification, 50-year-old Patty loses both her factory job and her best friend Jelena, who moves away. Silence blankets everything, underscored by the murmurs of change. Patty drifts through abandoned apartments as if caught in a vacuum, collecting things that have been left behind. She meets a younger man, Franz, and falls in love with him. One day, her apartment is so full of found objects that she can no longer enter it. So she walks away from her life and settles in a mysterious forest in the Kyffhäuser hills. Luise Donschen's debut feature centres upon an unconventional female character, developing as a voyage through landscape and time in which the fates of yesterday, today, and tomorrow touch each other – and where that which remains unsaid nevertheless resonates.
