Christmas in Sommerby

Weihnachten in Sommerby / Christmas in Sommerby

Filmforum, Germany 2026, 74 Min., ger. OV, engl. st, FSK 0, 10 years and older

It’s winter in Sommerby. Siblings Martha, Mikkel, and Mats are looking forward to Christmas at their Grandma Inge’s. But instead of snow, there’s dreary weather and a leaky thatched roof, and Inge isn’t really in the mood for festivities. That said, there’s quite a lot going on in the sleepy village on the Schlei – especially since a popular hangout is scheduled to close, to make way for luxury holiday flats. As the siblings get involved in the protests, Martha meets up again with Enes, whom she hasn’t forgotten since the summer they spent together. But the meeting doesn’t go as she’d hoped. With a storm coming in, the protest to save the hangout is called off, and the power goes out. It’s doubtful whether her parents will make it to Sommerby in time for Christmas. This sequel to "Summer in Sommerby", based on Kirsten Boie’s popular series of books, shows how important solidarity is. Even a perfect Christmas is full of compromises!
