Kaya is a young cell living in the kidney of Eric (8). One day, when the rest of the cell community sets off on a journey meant to lead them to their destinies, Kaya is not allowed to join them. Because, unlike the others, she is incapable of dividing. Distraught, Kaya wonders, what she is even good for?! But when higher-up cell Malignus tells her of a cure in Erik's bronchial tubes that could help cells like Kaya multiply, she courageously goes in search of it. Making her way through blood vessels, organs, and pulsating microscopic worlds full of fascinating creatures, she soon not only has dangerous enzymes hot on her heels, but also the militant – and headless – General Abel. Kaya would like to get rid of him, but then she realises that her problems are far more existential than she thought. To save the world she lives in, she has to join forces with General Abel and discover her true destiny.
