Kylmä kausi / Guts

Anna is a 30-year-old professional athlete who literally trains until she vomits. Despite her passion and physical exertion, her career as a cross-country skier has never really taken off and – at her age – time is running out. Facing the threat of being dropped from the team, she urges her teammate Maria’s trainer to take her on as Maria's new training partner. Maria's former partner, Ada, disappeared shortly before an important competition, and Maria, a favourite to win, is in desperate need of a replacement. But from the outset, the relationship between Maria and Anna is a complicated melange of envy and love, closeness and distance. When Anna discovers that there is more to Ada's disappearance, she is faced with a decision – sport or morality? In glistening, frosty, authentic images, “Guts” offers a well-informed insider look into the world of professional sport, a world that strains both the bodies and the souls of the athletes to their limits and beyond.
For the German premiere of the four-part mini-series, we are screening the first two episodes.
