Petrolheads

Martin and Casper have been best friends since childhood. They have a lot in common. Both grew up in foster care, and live with cognitive impairment and mental health issues. All their lives, they have shared something else besides the desire to “just be normal” – a boundless love for cars. They go to car races together, can identify car brands just by their sound, and roam the streets of Denmark in Casper’s dipped Mazda, usually in the search for Martin’s dream ride, a Honda Civic. They find one in Germany and Casper fixes it up for his best friend.
Martin now has mobility and independence. But his inner demons always return to haunt him. He loses his license, gets in with a bad crowd because of drugs, and has a near-fatal car accident. Behind the camera, director Emil Langballe, Martin’s brother, follows the friends with great warmth and dignity, creating a moving filmic ode to the power of friendship.
