Seven days in the life of Inka, a nurse. Between her gruelling shifts in the neonatal intensive care unit, the single mother barely has any time left for her young son, Riku. When she oversleeps from exhaustion, her seven-year-old son makes her a cup of coffee. If the hospital calls about an emergency, he is dropped off at a neighbour’s house in the middle of the night. The situation comes to a head when a baby with a serious heart defect is admitted to the ward. The child's distraught mother vehemently demands support and the highest level of care for her baby. Precisely at this critical moment, the nursing staff’s indefinite strike begins. Inka finds herself in a moral dilemma: should she join her colleagues in their fight against overwork, or stay by the bed of the seriously ill infant? And where does that leave Riku? We experience first-hand the everyday life of a mother, nurse, and colleague living in a constant state of emergency.
