Anders Zorn (1860—1920) was known as a painter in both Europe and the USA and even in the 19th century, he could be called a “media” superstar. He was also a subject of films. There is documentary footage of him and a 1994 narrative film uncovered his “scandalous” personal life. An exhibition dedicated to the painter opened in September in Hamburg’s Kunshalle. And the opening film of the Nordic Film Days Retrospective is the biopic “Zorn” (Sweden, 1994). Retrospective curator Jörg Schöning offers a critical look at the artist’s flamboyant personality.
