Young Norwegians Ida, Michelle, and Cecilie are vacationing in Bolivia with Michelle’s young son, Max. When they try to fly back home, they are stopped at the airport by customs officials and then land in jail for drug smuggling – packets of cocaine were found in their luggage. The overcrowded Bolivian prison in which the women and child are being held functions like an autonomous city with its own merciless rules. Since Norway and Bolivia have no extradition treaty, the women’s futures are uncertain. Their friendship and solidarity with each other is also put to the test. Who exactly betrayed whom only becomes clear by degrees – and is a surprising twist. This captivating series by screenwriter, director, and actor Emilie Beck is based on a true story from 2008 and is backed by extensive research.
