Ausstellung „Guter Stoff” im Hansemuseum: Führung mit Filmemacherin Leena Kilpeläinen / “Guter Stoff” exhibition at the Hansemuseum: Tour with filmmaker Leena Kilpeläinen
Events & Cooperations
The temporary exhibition “Guter Stoff” (“Good Material”) at Lübeck’s Hansemuseum illuminates the fascinating history of the production, trade, and consumption of textiles, as well as the significance of dress for Medieval society. It looks back to the era of the Hanseatic League, when all of northern Europe traded in textiles. They were a high-value product that brought prosperity to the entire region. The exhibition lays out how textiles shaped society back then. But the perspective also includes a look at the present and the future of the textile industry. It asks how we can bring our demand for material in line with our aspirations for fair production practices and a healthy environment. Is globalisation a danger to the natural and human worlds, or can it provide solutions to current crises? What does the future of textiles and fashion look like? The exhibition addresses those questions and illustrates that the Hanseatic era and the world of today and tomorrow have more in common than we might think.
Carsten Siebenbürgen, a scientific assistant at the museum, will lead the tour. Leena Kilpeläinen, director of the NFL film “Maija Isola – Master of Colour and Form” about the Finnish designer who helped design house Marimekko become world famous, will be part of the tour.
