An ordinary Swedish truck driver, Erwin, is caught up in a people smuggling operation. One summer day as he is transporting Syrian refugees across the Swedish border in his tanker, there is a tragic accident. The horrific event is depicted in the first episode of this nerve-wracking drama. The series follows repercussions of the disaster on everyone involved. Will the Syrian families get to the bottom of what happened to their loved ones? Can Erwin, who is struggling with his own family situation, overcome his guilt or will his life be ruined by one horrible mistake? While it makes for thrilling viewing, "The Lost" is not a sensationalist exploitation of the migrant crisis. instead it paints an empathetic portrait of ordinary people whose lives are changed forever by a single moment.
