Grump lives alone on his farm in Finland. Grumbling is his main occupation. Then, after a car accident, his sons Hessu and Pekka decide to scrap his beloved 1972 red Ford Escort. Grump is outraged and finds the same model for sale in Germany. He travels to Hamburg, where he is unexpectedly reunited with his brother, Tarmo, who had left the farm without a word of explanation decades ago. The estranged brothers become reluctant partners on a road trip that takes an unexpected turn, bringing the family back together again. The figure of Grump (Mielensäpahoittaja in Finnish) was first developed by Tuomas Kyrö for audio plays and later a book series. Mika Kaurismäki’s third movie about the cantankerous old man is set mainly in Germany.
