Installation: The Nosferatu Window
Several scenes from the horror classic “Nosferatu” by Friedrich Wilhelm
Murnau were shot in the early 1920s in northern Germany. Among the
filming locations was Lübeck, with actors from the city’s municipal
theatre playing parts in the silent about the count from Transylvania.
Year after year, film fans make the pilgrimage to the historic salt storage
building on the Obertrave, where Nosferatu took up residence to watch
his next victim. The close-up of the vampire in the window is legendary.
This installation, visible from time to time after dark, allows visitors to experience one of the best-known scenes in cinema history at the site of its creation
