1. Concert Klangbilder: "Wood Works" and pieces by Pēteris Vasks and Edvard Grieg

The programme of the 66th Nordic Film Days will be enhanced for the first time with a concert. The core is “Wood Works”, a unique collection of Scandinavian folk music that the renowned Danish String Quartet has been recording in its own arrangements and releasing since 2013. “Summer Tunes”, the second string quartet by Pēteris Vasks, Latvia’s best known contemporary composer, harks back to a free imitation of birdsong and is emblematic of Vasks’ pantheistic love of nature. The concert will wrap up with an early masterpiece by Edvard Grieg, the “founder of serious Norwegian music”, his first string quartet.
