Andrea is an artist who is not afraid of grand gestures. Although she is celebrated abroad for her work, her actual life looks bleak at the moment. She lives with her mother, Dijana, whose own story of immigration still cuts her to bone – literally: Dijana suffers from chronic pain and her attempt at self-help comes to nothing. To distract and relax her mother, Andrea unceremoniously selects her to be the subject of her latest performance. Yet the artist didn’t reckon with the old woman’s stubbornness.
Director Gabriele Pichler and her partner Johan Lundborg take an imaginative and amusing look at the topics of home, migration, mother-daughter relationships, and the phenomenon of how emotional experiences can be reflected in the body. Their protagonists are idiosyncratic, sometimes tragic figures who come up with unusual but original solutions. The NFL is screening episodes 1, 2, 5, and 6 of the six-part series, including a “What happened in between” recap in the cinema!
