Blindgänger / Highly Explosive
Filmforum, Germany 2024, 95 Min., DCP, ger., engl. OV, ger. st
An unexploded World War II bomb is discovered in the middle of Hamburg's lively Schanzenviertel neighbourhood. The discovery triggers both a large-scale evacuation and interpersonal chaos among the residents and the bomb squad. Chief Otto is in the middle of a personal crisis. His colleague Lane needs a psychological assessment to take over the bomb disposal process. Trouble is, she's had an affair with the new psychologist, who knows her better than she would like. Meanwhile, Viktor is trying to keep the commotion in his house under control. It's not just that his elderly neighbour Margit is plagued by memories of war; a young Afghan, Junis, is hiding in Viktor's house to avoid being evacuated by the police and then deported. And now there's a severe storm rolling in!
Kerstin Polte interweaves the different storylines and perspectives on this state of societal emergency to create an eventful ensemble film.
