Med ackja och ren i Inka Läntas vinterland / With Reindeer and Sled in Inka Länta's Winterland / Mit Schlitten und Rentier in Inka Läntas Winterland
Retrospektive, Sweden 1926, 59 Min., sw. OV, engl. st
In the snow-covered forests set against a scenic mountain backdrop, we are introduced to Inka Länta and her family. As a reindeer breeder in the wintery landscape, her daily life is hard graft. The highlight of the year is the Winter Market at Jokkmokk, where Sámi from various regions all meet up. When Inka’s brother meets with an accident, the future of the Länta family seems uncertain... $With Reindeer and Sled in Inka Länta’s Winterland” is one of the earliest Swedish documentary features about the life of the Sámi. The plot of the 1926 film is fictional, but the locations are real and the characters all portray themselves. As in many documentaries of that era, the film creates tension with a mix of documentary shots and dramatic elements. Despite the fact that the filmmaker was an outsider, the depiction of the Sámi people is considered relatively accurate (according to film archivist Magnus Rosborn). – Restored version with piano music by Lotta Hasselquist Nilsson.
