Trans Memoria

A quiet, impersonal hotel room in a Thai city. Across the way is a highway bridge over a muddy beach, under an overcast sky. More than seven years ago, Victoria came here to undergo gender-affirming surgery. At the time, her friend Meril was at her side and the two shared the anticipation of fulfilling that life-changing dream, as well as the fear, pain, and loneliness that went with it. Meril is no longer alive and Victoria has returned to Thailand with her friends Athena and Aamina. Her goal is to relive memories of Meril and better understand her experiences at the time, and herself. Athena and Aamina are in different stages of transitioning. In this remote location, they reflect on identity, loss, and the great psychological and physical challenges that go along with the desire for an authentic life. The film is an intimate, poetic meditation on trans identity and trans reality.
