Lübeck in alten Amateurfilmen 1929–1989 / Lübeck Home Movies 1929–1989
Specials, Germany , 90 Min., ger. OV
The medium of film delighted the people of Lübeck from very early on. Since the 1920s, numerous citizens have recorded their city and their lives on cine film. Initially in black-and-white, later also in colour – and sometimes with great dedication. Some of these amateur films were meant for public screening, others were intended strictly as home movies. The results were cinematic city portraits and documents of everyday family life. Lübeck in war and peacetime, Travemünde, the city centre, the suburbs, the marksmen’s booth at the fair, and excursions to surrounding areas both near and far. And time and again, families, and especially children – nothing and nobody was safe from the cameras of the home-movie fans. Lübeck filmmaker and film archivist C. Cay Wesnigk, with the support of the non-profit rbeitsgemeinschaft der Filmautoren Lübeck (ASFA), presents a collection of finds from his own and the organisation's archives, with contextualisation.
