Dancing Queen

Dancing Queen

Young Audience, Norway 2023, 90 Min., DCP, Dolby 5.1, norw. OV, engl. st, ger. voice over, 8 years and older

Twelve-year-old Mina might be a bit clumsy, but she’s great at math. Her grandma, who’s never at a loss for caustic words of wisdom, thinks she’s the most beautiful girl in the world, but not everyone agrees. On the first day of the new school year, Mina sees E.D. Win and is instantly lovestruck by the ostentatiously cool hip-hop dancer who basks in the attention of his Instagram fans. To impress him, Mina decides to enter a dance competition. Her first audition doesn’t exactly go smoothly, but Mina holds fast to her plans, even if her good friend Markus, and even more so her parents, have their doubts. Whose recognition is worth fighting for? Is striving for perfection a good way to find yourself? Mina is confronted with these and other questions in Aurora Gossé’s upbeat yet heartfelt comedy about Mina’s by no means clear path to becoming a Dancing Queen.
