Titina / Titina – Ein tierisches Abenteuer am Nordpol
Young Audience, Norway 2022, 92 Min., ger./norw. OV, engl. st, ger. voice over, 10 years and older
In 1926, Italian engineer and pilot Umberto Nobile, and Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen became the first people in the world to take off for the North Pole in a specially constructed airship. But in Kajsa Næss' fantastical and colorful retelling of their expedition, the two heroic men are not the main characters. Nobile’s dog, Titina, is the movie’s protagonist. The flight is a success, but the two pioneers, with their driven personalities and inflated egos, throw caution to the wind as they vie for recognition. Seen from the viewpoint of the charming dog, this tale of heroism and discovery is still a gripping adventure, but one in which there is also room for the supposedly smaller things in life: for everyday events, for quirks, and for less noble motives. Which doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of room for close calls, and the fascination and wonder of the unknown.
