Against all odds, Leila, who is trans, lives in her hometown of Herat, Afghanistan. At 64, she is close to retirement age, yet her days are full: she teaches at a girl’s school, performs as a dancer at weddings, and cares for a group of people with disabilities. This touching portrait accompanies Leila in 2021, just before the Taliban took power.
