Lübeck, October 19, 2023. In just two weeks, the 65th Nordic Film Days Lübeck begins. The festival, which presents films from the European north and northeast, will open this year with the German premiere of the Swedish-Danish comedy “Together 99” (“Tillsammans 99”) by Lukas Moodysson.

Advance ticket sales start in 10 days, on October 28, 2023. Tickets for the more than 180 films in a total of almost 250 public screenings, will be available online and at the CineStar Filmpalast cinema. And more than 50 percent of that line-up will be available for streaming by audiences all over Germany. The films on the streaming platform will be available from 7 pm on November 1 through the end of the festival. Additional information is available at the festival website.

A total of twelve jury prizes, including the audience prize, with a total endowment of 65,000 euros will be awarded, in addition to the honorary award, which this year goes to Swedish director and screenwriter Roy Andersson. The honorary prize will be awarded at the opening night ceremony on November 1, while the rest of the awards will be presented on November 4 during the gala Prize Night at Theater Lübeck.

Many international filmmakers will be in Lübeck to present their films. As a festival that has always represented the future of northern European cinema, the Nordic Film Days are proud of the number of young directors coming to Lübeck with their debut films, including Mika Gustafson, whose “Paradise is Burning” (“Paradiset brinner”) won Best Director in the Orizzonti section at Venice, Laurens Pérol (“Practice”/“Å Øve”), a German director who trained and works in Norway, and Tia Kouvo (“Family Time”/“Mummola”), and Ninna Pálmadóttir (“Solitude”/“Tilverur”). Old friends of the festival are also coming to town with new films and series, such as Carl Olssen (“Vintersaga”) and Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson (“Balls”/”Afturelding”). The German film and television industry will be well represented in Lübeck by guests of the Filmforum section. The stars of the “Am Abgrund” episode of the popular series “Morden im Norden”, Sven Martinek and Ingo Naujoks are expected. And the opening night screening of “Together 99” on November 1 will be introduced by the two leads Gustaf Hammarsten (Göran) and Anja Lundqvist (Lena), alongside producer Anna Carlsten.

The 65th Nordic Film Days Lübeck also marks the premiere of the Lübeck Script Development Grant, with each grant worth € 35,000. The first two recipients will be introduced on opening night, November 1.

This year, the NFL has also stepped up its commitment to making festival films and events accessible to the blind and partially-sighted, and the deaf and hard-of-hearing. To enable more people to participate in cinema culture, some films will be shown with audio description for the partially sighted and SDH subtitles, for the deaf and hard of hearing. And selected events and discussions will be interpreted live into German sign language.

Please note that the deadline for applying for press credentials is October 27. Late applications will be charged a fee of 10 euros. Accreditation entitles the holder entry to all Nordic Film Days screenings free of charge.
