Lübeck, Nov. 7, 2016. The 58th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 2 – 6, 2016) came to a festive close on Sunday after 250 screenings of a total of 185 films. There was enormous interest among visitors for the festival’s newest attractions, such as Scandinavian TV series, virtual reality stations and the fulldome 360° cinema. With a total of 32,000 visitors, more people than ever came to Lübeck for the NFL, making it the largest influx of attendees in the history of the festival. More
Lübeck, Nov. 5, 2016.The debut feature “Heartstone” (Hjartasteinn) by Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson is the winner of the NDR Film Prize at the 58th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 2 – 6, 2016). Accepting the award as part of the gala Film Prize Night in Theater Lübeck, the young Icelandic director expressed delight at winning the prize with its 12,500 euro endowment, the largest in the festival. The mood was upbeat at yesterday’s launch of the 58th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 2 – 6, 2016) as moderator Steen Lorenzen invited the ladies’ team from the Norwegian-Danish-German opening night film “Framing Mom” onstage. Director Sara Johnsen, the two leads, Ruby Dagnall and Laila Goody, and producer Turid Øversveen from Norway’s 4½ Fiksjon were delighted when host Lorenzen slipped into a film scene role and invited them to a garden party. The seven juries will include many notable members. The NDR Film Prize, with the highest endowment at 12,500 euros donated by festival media partner NDR, has been awarded to a "feature film of special artistic quality” since 1990. The locales on display in the 17 films in Competition at the 58th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 2 - 6, 2016) may be remote from the urban hustle and bustle, but they are anything but unspectacular. Deep in the imposing fjord landscapes of western Norway, a young woman seeks “Revenge” with a plan no less ingenious than that of Baltasar Kormákur, who chases across Iceland’s lava fields in “The Oath” to protect his daughter from her boyfriend. The Icelandic actor, director and producer, who is also presenting the TV series “Trapped” in Lübeck, will be a festival guest. In a fishing village on the Icelandic coast in “Heartstone”, first love ignites between two boys. More

Lübeck, Oct. 18, 2016. - Many of the films in the Film Forum section of this year’s 58th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 2-6, 2016) centre on turning points – personal and societal changes.
That includes three impressive narrative feature debuts – “Dust Cloth” by Turkish director Ahu Özturk, made with the support of the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein subsidy organisation FFHSH, “We are the Tide”, a sci-fi drama with Max Mauff, partially shot on Pellworm and “Fado”, a passionate love story, directed by Lübeck-born Jonas Rothlaender. The counterpart is a film programme for children that’s broader and stronger than it has been in a long time, with a total of eight films for children under 12. More

At a press conference today, the directors of the Nordic Film Days Lübeck, Linde Fröhlich (artistic director) and Christian Modersbach (managing director) took to the podium alongside section curators to provide an overview of the programme for the upcoming 58th festival (Nov. 2 - 6, 2016). 186 films, including 17 in competition for the NDR Film Prize, endowed with 12,500 euros, will be shown over five days in the four festival cinemas as well as a variety of special venues. That includes a fulldome installed specifically for the NFL, showing immersive 360° films, and made possible by our partner at Lübeck’s public utilities. Lübeck, Aug. 31, 2016. For the first time this year, the Nordic Film Days Lübeck will present TV series from the Nordic-Baltic countries in a separate section, festival directors Linde Fröhlich (artistic director) and Christian Modersbach (managing director) announced today in the first press conference for the upcoming 58th NFL. They were joined on the panel by Lübeck’s culture senator Kathrin Weiher and the curator and director of the Retrospective, Jörg Schöning. The Series section will show small-screen gems on the big screen, including the Danish episodic dramedy “Splitting Up Together" (Bedre skilt end aldrig), as well as “Nobel” from Norway, about a special forces soldier, with Nordic stars Aksel Hennie and Danica Curcic.

With audiences continually increasing in recent years, the 57th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 4 – 8, 2015) broke its own record this year, with attendance figures reaching 30,500. Yesterday was the final day of the NFL, presented by the Hanseatic city-state of Lübeck, and the two festival directors Linde Fröhlich (artistic director) and Christian Modersbach (managing director) were very upbeat about this year's festival. “We had many high-quality films on the programme; films that audiences enjoyed and which opened up them up to new points of view. And Lübeck residents may also have gotten a new outlook on their city, including the refugee situation. We’re especially pleased about the young NDR Film Prize winner and the high production values of his film. We had a lot of fun bringing people together, the way the films and events of the Nordic Film Days do.” More
Lübeck, Nov. 7, 2015. A Norwegian film has won the main prize at the Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 4 – 8, 2015). Director Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken seemed over the moon as he accepted the NDR Film Prize, endowed with 12,500 euros, from the jury for his film “Returning Home” (“Å vende tilbake").
The strong showing of Icelandic films in this year’s festival was reflected in the awards as well. “Virgin Mountain” (Fúsi) not only won the Lübecker Nachrichten Audience Prize (endowed with 5,000 euros) but also the Interfilm Church Prize, endowed with 2,500 euros donated by the Lübeck-Lauenburg Protestant-Lutheran church district. Director Dagur Kári was on hand to personally accept the prize. He was accompanied by lead actor Gunnar Jónsson, who received an honourable mention for his performance in the film. More
