Lübeck, Sept. 30, 2016. The 58th Nordic Film Days Lübeck open on November 2, 2016, with ROSEMARI (Framing Mom), accompanying a young woman on a journey in search of clues to her past. Norwegian director Sara Johnson sends her young protagonist Rosemari, brilliantly portrayed by talented young star Ruby Dagnall, across Norway to Denmark, in this road movie enriched with a lot of humour and sensitive moments. A strong cast, led by Tuva Novotny (“A War”, “Jalla Jalla”) in the role of Unn Tove, provides for powerful ensemble back-up.
ROSEMARI will celebrate its international premiere on November 2, 2016 at 7 pm, in Lübeck, which is also the organiser of the Nordic Film Days. The director and additional guests are expected at the screening. The film was produced by the Norwegian company 4 1/2 Fiksjon AS, in co-production with Nimbus Film ApS from Denmark and Germany’s The Match Factory Production. Farbfilm Verleih will distribute the film in Germany. ROSEMARI is the fourth feature from director Sara Johnsen, who has previously been represented in competition in Lübeck with “Kissed by Winter” (2005), “Upperdog” (2009) and “All that Matters is Past” (2012).
“Sara Johnsen is one of Scandinavia’s most distinguished directors and writers. In ROSEMARI she gives us a powerful and touching story, striking exactly the right note between seriousness and lightness. With the excellent actors and a production crew that is experienced in every sense of the term, she has made a film that entertains and will stay with you afterwards”, says Linde Fröhlich, the artistic director of the Nordic Film Days.
During Unn Tove's wedding reception, a baby is born in the restaurant’s bathroom. The bride finds the newborn girl and turns her over to the authorities. The two meet again 16 years later. By that time, Unn Tove is a divorced mother of two daughters, working as a journalist for a local broadcaster. The almost grown-up Rosemari (Ruby Dagnall) is trying to track down her birth mother. Unn Tove decides to help the young woman with her search and to shoot a report about it for her TV station. On their journey through Norway, all the way to Denmark, the two women deal with questions about motherhood, love and lies. As they get closer to finding Rosemari's mother, Unn Tove must decide whether or not to tell the younger woman the truth.
The 58th Nordic Film Days Lübeck will run from November 2 – 6, 2016. There will be a press conference on October 12, 2016 to announce the selected films and series, as well as festival guests.
