Daniel, Marika, and Leo have Tourette's, a phonic and motor tic disorder – and are fed up with the social stigmatisation as well as the unsuccessful attempts at therapy. Together with Alexander Münchau, a professor of neuropsychiatry at the University of Lübeck, and psychiatrist Daniel Alvarez-Fischer, they embark on a journey to learn more about Tourette's syndrome, the current state of research and, above all, about themselves. The trip takes the group to the Inari region in northern Finland, where the trio try out a new form of treatment – meta-cognitive therapy. They meet the Sami people and are introduced to their view of life and shamanic rituals. In the vast natural expanse of Lapland, amidst a different social context, and absent social pressure, they undertake a new exploration of their own identities as well as with how they themselves deal with their “TICS”.
