Sokea mies, joka ei halunnut nähdä TitaniciaThe Blind Man Who Did Not Want To See Titanic

Competition Narrative Films, Finland 2021, 82 Min., fin. OV, engl. st

Jaakko loves B-movies; his favourite director is John Carpenter. He has an impressive collection of DVDs, with only one that has yet to be unwrapped – James Cameron's "Titanic". He's never seen it, even when he could have. The young man suffers from MS, is blind, and in a wheelchair. He talks on the phone several times a day with Sirpa, whom he has never met. They flirt, tell each other nice things, and share their suffering. Because the woman on the other end of the line is also seriously ill. When she receives a bitter diagnosis, Jaakko decides to visit her. He is completely reliant on the assistance of strangers to manage it. The film becomes a road movie, and finally a thriller. Teemu Nikki wrote the screenplay for his friend Petri Poikolainen, who has MS and who plays the lead. The loneliness he feels in real life as a disabled man flows into the portrayal, as does his unwavering joie de vivre and passion for cinema.
