Competition Narrative Films, Norway / Sweden 2019, 126 Min., norw. OV, engl. st

Two days before Christmas, theatre director Anja is diagnosed with a brain tumour. She was able to overcome lung cancer the previous year, but the diagnosis this time is more grim - incurable. Over the holidays, she and her life partner, the film director Tomas, are able to hide her illness from their six children. But that becomes impossible as they make preparations for a rapid surgical intervention. The emotional stress places severe strains on everyone in the family – including Anja herself. In the face of her possible death, she begins to doubt many of her life decisions, including her relationship with Tomas … Maria Sødahl’s autobiographical family drama unsparingly confronts the challenges of a personal crisis. She cautiously reveals what gave her hope for overcoming it – the help and comfort from friends and family.
