After a long pillaging journey, Olav and his warriors return to their village. Olav’s brother took over as chieftain while his brother was away and is none too happy to see the return of the band. One of them is his wife, Froya, who is visibly irritated by her sad sack husband. Meanwhile, warrior Arvid begins to brood, and decides he’d preferred a quiet life with wife, home, and hearth. Yet he's having a difficult time dealing with his new duties as a husband – warrior or not, he's more the cerebral type. The returning raiders bring back not only treasures and charts, but also slaves. One of them is Rufus, a conceited and decadent actor, who simply can’t believe he’s landed in such an uncivilised dump. When in Norheim, don’t do as the Romans do – outraged at the crude manners of the Norsemen, Rufus makes his way as the consummate aesthete through life among the barbarians.
