Norge, vårt Norge – i toner og billeder

Norge, vårt Norge – i toner og billederNorwegen, unser Norwegen – in Klängen und Bildern / Norway, our Norway – in Music and Pictures

Retrospective, Norway 1929, 82 Min., silent, norw. it

The most successful of the “Norges filmene” from the period between the two world wars, this documentary was made for international audiences, but also for Norwegians who were unable to travel in their own country. Gunnar Iversen said, “with their national-romantic landscape images of wild fjords and great waterfalls, high mountains and the midnight sun, these ‘Norway’ films helped awaken national, patriotic feelings. In Selvig’s film, however, we also get glimpses of modern Norway, with its car tourism and industrialisation”. After introductory explanations on Norway’s size and location, its history and constitution, the film also shows us the country’s economic aspects. The film covers farming, forestry, shipping, whaling and fishing, as well as culture and the popularity of Norway as a “land of sport”. The copy was restored by the National Library in Rana.
