The Swedish director Bo Widerberg (1930-1997) spent many years working on a film about his father which he never completed. His son Martin, born in 1965, has now set about completing the task: By shooting a film about his father with his own son Morris, he is also telling the story of his grandfather Arvid. As a young man, Bo Widerberg often joined him on his travels to Paris, where Arvid would paint pictures while Bo shot his first film footage and developed into writer. When Arvid gave up painting as he grew old, the communication between father and son also faltered. Using private footage as well as scenes from Bo Widerberg’s feature films - including “Raven’s End” (1963), about a young man in Malmö who wants to become a writer, and “Kärlek 65”, about a director and his lovelife -, that blend surprisingly well into the biographical narrative, Martin Widerberg has successfully composed a multi-layered “family constellation” that encompasses four generations.
