The BetrayalDer Verrat

Competition Documentaries, Norway / Great Britain 2011, 64 Min.

During the 1990s, Karen Winter was a frequent guest at the left-wing “Blitz” youth centre in Oslo. At an anti-Nazi demonstration in Lund, she and her friends are arrested by the Swedish police and kept in custody in a van for nine hours, leaving her traumatized. The rebellious teenager from a broken home subsequently establishes contact with the Norwegian Neo-Nazi scene and supplies them with information about the “Blitz”. A quarrel with her mother culminates in Karen Winter beating her to the point of hospitalization. Then her activities as an informer are rendered public ... In her autobiographical film the director faces up to her past as a “Nazi snitch”. Her diary, discussions with her parents and interviews with former “Blitz” activists are all drawn on in a quest to find out how the neo-faschist ideology was able to exert such fascination on her, which she now considers an horrific abhorration - especially in the aftermath of the attacks in Oslo and Utøya.
