Films for young viewers, Denmark 2011, 75 Min., 14 years and older
Mia is in a state of despair. School is going badly and her mother is seriously getting on her nerves. The only sense of achievement she gets is out of athletics, and hardly anyone can beat Mia on the track. One day she meets Zack in the centre of Copenhagen, a charming conjuror and pickpocket with whom Mia falls in love on the spot. Zack belongs to a gang of adolescent runaways, whose aim it is to collect enough loot to buy their own house. Now Mia must decide: Will she stay with Zack and the cool pickpockets, or should she rather pursue a career in athletics, like her coach is urging her to. The versatile director Hands Fabian Wullenweber ("Catch That Girl") has shot a brightly-coloured Bollywood crime story for adolescents: Catchy song and dance interludes contribute to the film's velocity, the dynamic video clip aesthetics oriented around the viewing habits of a young audience. At the same time "Bora Bora" provides a sensitive and authentic portrayal of its protagonists' needs and the pressure they are under to make decisions.
