Arstidir: You Just Have to Know of Me

"Árstídir" is the Icelandic word for "seasons". The band from Reykjavik that came up with this name for itself is making a reference to the many contrasts of Iceland's climate: endless, sunny summer days, a sinister, melancholy winter, an autumn, coloured blood red by foliage, and a gentle spring. Árstídir's melodic music is indebted to these natural phenomena. It is "grounded" in the best sense of the word, making it more typical of Iceland than its band members would ever admit. The film allows for plenty of statements by the six musicians that belong to Árstídir, who talk not only of their music, but generally of life in Reykjavik. There is wonderful footage from a concert in a small club as well as from their annual performance in Frikirkja. They underline what director Lilja Häfele thinks about Árstídir: "There are more icelandic bands than just Sígur Rós and Björk that are worth to be known."
