Special, Finland 2010, 60 Min., English subtitles
Still "on the road" although it's almost Christmas! It is plain poverty that keeps the threesome moving together. Luukonen is the most vigorous of the three: She is an artist who paints winter landscapes, which Emppu tries to sell in banks, minor companies and shopping malls – often to no avail. He claims the "Cheap Art" paintings were done by Finnish war veterans and that the profits will go to "Finnish Independence". In truth he pockets all the money himself. In doing so, not only does he cheat Luukonen, but also his stepson Toni. The boy drives the threesome's VW van, and steals petrol to do so. At some point the "painting sellers" end up entangled and paralyzed in their unsettled relationships. Often reminiscent of a documentary film, this outsider ballad was produced by the Finnish director Auli Mantila ("The Geography of Fear", NFL 2000), who also stars as the female protagonist.
