Filmforum, Germany 2010, 80 Min., English subtitles
Following the love of his life several years ago, Dario Aguirre left Ecuador and moved to Germany, where he stayed. Deeply influenced by a sense of living between two worlds, the director now takes a closer look at his cultural identity. For this purpose, he selected a rather unusual path: He used the Internet to contact people who shared his name and then visited five of them in Latin America. In his documentary film, he shows in a highly personal way how he meets a psychologist, a taxi-driving pensioner, a portrait-sketching security guard, a soccer-obsessed soldier and a young athlete. These Darios not only take him into their realities, they teach him how to drive and shoot and they teach him lessons in hospitality, love and affiliation. In a time of globalization, this life-affirming essay film between continents has a lot of much-needed life experience to offer.
