15-year old Sebbe lives with his alcoholic mother in a dismal suburb of Stockholm. The daily walk to school is a repeated test of strength for the teenager: Not only is he bullied by a number of fellow pupils, but it is predominately the circumstances around his family background that cause the boy dismay. His father left the family many years ago and Sebbe never got to know him. His mother scratches a living out of parttime jobs and cannot even afford to buy her son a birthday present. The only thing that brings him joy is his enthusiasm for tinkering about with technology. When his mother is caught stealing a jacket for Sebbe, Sebbe's sense of humiliation and frustration becomes so overwhelming that he decides to construct a bomb. Babak Najafi's debut fathoms out the depths of an injured adolescent soul with shattering social realism, for which it received the Best First Feature Award at this years Berlinale, and the film's leading actors are striking in their overwhelming, natural performance.
