"Does Sweden have a class society?" Lena, 23, poses many uncomfortable questions to passers-by in the streets of Stockholm. Lena is "curious", both politically and sexually. The film shows Lena's private experiences in love while also showing her to be a participant in current-day political events – e.g. in her encounter with Olof Palme. Vilgot Sjölman's two-part "I Am Curious" propagated the "symbiosis of sex and socialism" and was a scandalous success in several European countries. It is still today considered groundbreaking how "the former Bergman assistant Sjöman examined the social and political consciousness of his fellow citizens. The sex scenes – scandalous at the times – ensured him the reputation of an enfant terrible even amongst left-wing European filmmakers of the 1960s." (Die Zeit, 2007). In the second part, "I Am Curious – Blue", the same topic is approached in the rural areas.
